Northern Territory climate has two zones. The first is the tropical north, which includes Darwin and the Kakadu and Katherine regions. The second is Central Australia, which includes Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Uluru (Ayers Rock).
The Northern Territory climate of the central region is a semi-arid desert environment. The humidity in Central Australia is normally quite low and the tropical rains don't usually get that far south. Nights can get fairly cold in the desert especially in the winter months.
Alice Springs (Central Australia) weather in summer is hot with the average daily maximum temperature around 35 degrees Celsius, although it can get much higher.
The average daily minimum temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius.
Alice Springs weather in winter is warm days and cold nights with the average daily maximum temperature around 21 degrees Celsius.
The average daily minimum temperature is around 5 degrees Celsius, although it can get much lower.
The highest recorded maximum temperature in the Northern Territory was recorded at Finke on the 2nd of January 1960, it was 48.3 degrees Celsius.
The lowest recorded minimum temperature in the Northern Territory was recorded at Alice Springs on the 12th of July 1976, it was minus 7.5 degrees Celsius.
The northern top end and Darwin weather is tropical with distinct wet and dry seasons.
During the wet season (summer) the humidity averages over 70%, and there can be monsoonal rains and tropical cyclones.
During the dry season (winter) the humidity averages around 30%, and nearly every day is warm and sunny.
